Maleic Anhydride

Maleic anhydride is a versatile intermediate for unsaturated polyester resins, coatings, lubricant additives, and specialty chemicals. Petron’s process offers a safe, reliable, and optimized alternative over the competitors.

Petron’s solution & differentiators

Over 30+ years of continuous process development, as well as licensing and operating the proprietary MAH technology, with an efficient and continuous distillation process with minimum by-products. Commercially proven MAH technology currently deployed globally. Optional n-butane or mix C4 feed to integrate with the MAH process for all downstream applications such as butanediol and food additives. Multiple units operated and modified over the past three decades.

Applicable feedstocks & products

n-Butane or mix C4 feed into maleic anhydride. The feed can be a mixed C4 stream from which n-butane is distilled out; the MAH reaction runs on 95% n-butane with air. Iso-butane is recoverable in the butane purification section from C4 mix feed for its further sale or use.

Commercial maturity

Commercially available for licensing directly, backed by more than three decades of experience and countless projects around the world.

How it works

Process block diagram

Maleic anhydride process: butane mix through optional purification and treated, compressed air into a containment-design reactor, then heat recovery, scrubbing, pretreatment and dehydration, xylene recovery, and product finishing and pelletizing to maleic anhydride.
